How Camera Images are involved: The images on this Photchrome sub web are the copyright of Cotswold Pictures Ltd. The photography of many of the originals and the editing for this project has been done by Camera Images. Both directors of Cotswold Pictures Ltd are also the tutors for Camera Images. This ia large project now at an advanced stage. This is also a limited edition brand marketed by GB Pictures.

Progresses:- We have around 1500 Photochromes in total, quite a few are now available. English counties have been added, we are working on the Scottish, Welsh and Irish. All are expected to be live here soon.  Indexes by county are working, other indexes will be added as soon as all counties have been put on line. We are still sourcing small numbers of  Photochromes, so the collection will continue to grow.

Introducing Photochromes

Colour photography as we know it was not available until the second half of the 20th century, while colour Photochromes date from over 50 years earlier, most being produced between the last few years of the 19th century (1890's) until early into the 20th century.

We have high resolution scans from surviving printed editions of over 1,500 of these images covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We also have access to a selection of the originals that are a part of the Adam Aaron Studio Collection, one of the finest art collections. We have commissioned photographs of some of these.

The high definition scans and photographs have been edited only slightly to remove the marks of time and make slight presentational improvements, and colours brought back near to the the way they would have looked originally, luckily many of the originals we have access to are in near mint condition, providing a reference to work from.

Produced to the finest quality for you and generations to come to enjoy, some being given attractive borders that make them truly unique, and framed in frames with an antique look, they are stunning and create a lasting impression to all who see them.

Time travel images

Your chance to own a unique window into a past time, we have three edition types. A reproduction (20b), that is slightly larger than the original and produced so as to look similar to the original, and two edition types with borders representing the chewing away or tearing back of time, these attractive decollated borders, cover very little of the original images and enhance the experience as well as making these editions truly unique. One edition is of near to the whole of  the image enlarged considerably (26a), while the second is produced by taking a section of the original images (20a), and producing it in a matching style to the larger images. The sections are being produced only on images where this approach is advantageous.

How to find the editions you would like to see

We have a selection of examples in one section but the easier way to find places of interest to you is to use one of the indexes on the left, by place and county. If you don't find a place in the place index always try the county index as many places we know today did not exist at the time these were taken.

We do hope you enjoy visiting us and would like to come back from time to time, you may like to add our web address to your favourites and then why not email your best friends and tell them about this site.
